With uncertainties still surrounding the resumption of commercial flight services in Nigeria, Air Peace has said it would resume flight operations with only 10 aircraft.

Speaking during a webinar organized by Aelex Partners last week, the Chairman of the airline, Allen Onyema revealed that the airline would deploy only 4 of its 13 Boeing 737 as well as 6 of its 8 Embraer 145 jets.

According to Onyema, Air Peace will also scale down daily flights from 100 flights per day to 42 flights per day, and will also discontinue the traditional in-flight catering when it eventually resumes operations.

In addition to reducing operational costs, these measures will also help to minimize physical contact between passengers and the crew.

On a positive note, however, the Chairman also said that although some staff may be asked to stay home until the situation improves, the airline had no plans to sack any staff, but would recall them as the need arises.

It will be recalled that, following the global trend, the Federal Government of Nigeria, had in late March, ordered the closure of all Nigerian airports as a measure to stop the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic.

However, several countries, including Ghana, have partially opened their airspaces to scheduled passenger operations, but it is not certain when operations will resume in Nigeria.
