Introduction
Every journey has defining moments. Sometimes, it is the flight itself. Other times, the experience begins long before boarding. The Kenya Airways Pride Lounge offered me one of those moments during my recent transit through Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Nairobi.
The time I spent at the lounge was enough to understand why it enjoys such a strong reputation among premium travellers.
First Impressions
After checking in for my Kenya Airways flight, I quickly completed other departure formalities. With a Business Class boarding pass in hand, I took the elevator to the Kenya Airways Pride Lounge to wait for my connecting flight. What followed was a memorable lounge experience at one of Africa's leading airline lounges.

The reception area immediately set the tone. Warm timber panels, soft lighting and tasteful Kenya Airways branding created an inviting atmosphere. Fresh flowers on the reception desk added colour without drawing attention away from the clean design.

The welcome matched the setting. The reception staff greeted me warmly from the moment I arrived. They were friendly, courteous and professional throughout the check-in process, which took only a few moments.
Although there was a steady flow of passengers entering the lounge, I never felt rushed. The relaxed pace of our interaction left a strong first impression and reflected the calm atmosphere that defined the rest of my stay.
Design and Ambience
The Pride Lounge strikes a fine balance between elegance and comfort. Instead of relying on lavish décor, the designers focused on space, natural light and functionality. The open layout makes it easy to move between different areas without feeling confined.

The dining section flows naturally into the relaxation zones. Contemporary pendant lighting hangs above the buffet, while decorative black partitions fitted with orchids subtly divide the space without blocking sightlines.
The lounge also features generous floor-to-ceiling windows which let natural light fill much of the interior during the day, creating a pleasant environment for passengers waiting for their flights.

Despite serving travellers from across the Kenya Airways network, the lounge did not feel crowded at any point during my visit. Conversations remained quiet and the overall atmosphere encouraged guests to relax, work or simply enjoy the surroundings.
Seating and Comfort
Pride Lounge offers a variety of seating options. This is one of its strongest features. Passengers looking to work can choose tables with comfortable chairs and access to power outlets. Those who simply want to unwind will find plenty of armchairs spread across the lounge.

I particularly liked the seating positioned along the large windows overlooking the apron. The bright red chairs offer one of the best seats in the house. They are comfortable, well positioned and perfect for watching aircraft movements. That became my favourite spot during my time in the lounge. From there, I enjoyed uninterrupted views of the airside while waiting for my flight.

For travellers with longer layovers, the lounge also provides dedicated sleep cushions where passengers can catch some rest before their next flight. It is a thoughtful addition that reflects an understanding of the needs of connecting travellers.
Food and Beverage
No premium lounge is complete without good food, and the Pride Lounge delivers in this regard. The buffet was well presented and offered a good selection of hot meals, light snacks and refreshments. The open kitchen also allows passengers to see meals being prepared, adding a welcoming touch to the dining experience.

I kept my meal simple. I enjoyed baked beans with a sausage roll, accompanied by freshly pressed fruit juice. Later, I had a cup of green tea. Everything tasted fresh and well prepared.

The culinary team deserves a special mention. Although there were several guests dining at the same time, the culinary team remained cheerful, attentive and always ready to help. Their professionalism reflected the warm hospitality for which Kenya is known.
Front Row Seat to the Apron
For aviation enthusiasts, this may well be the highlight of the entire lounge. The expansive windows provide uninterrupted views of aircraft movements across the apron. From pushbacks and taxiing aircraft to ground handling activities, there is always something happening outside.

During my visit, several Kenya Airways aircraft occupied nearby stands, offering an excellent view of the airline's operations at its Nairobi hub. It is easy to lose track of time while watching aircraft arrive and depart. For anyone who enjoys aircraft spotting, few airport lounges in Africa offer such rewarding views.
Lounge Facilities
The Pride Lounge offers everything most premium travellers would expect. Complimentary high-speed Wi-Fi was available throughout my stay and performed well. Whether checking emails, browsing the web or catching up on work, the connection remained stable and fast.
Although I did not use the lounge's shower facilities, I visited the restrooms and found them clean and well maintained. Business travellers will also appreciate the quiet work areas, while those with time to spare can simply relax with a drink while watching activity on the airfield.
The Service
Service often determines whether a lounge leaves a lasting impression. The Pride Lounge performs well in this regard. From the reception team to the dining staff, everyone I encountered was courteous, approachable and willing to help. Nothing felt forced or rehearsed. The service felt genuine, creating an atmosphere that made it easy to relax.

Small interactions often leave the biggest impression, and that was certainly the case here. While the lounge offers comfortable seating, quality dining and excellent apron views, it was the professionalism and warmth of the people that completed the experience. Their hospitality added a personal touch that stayed with me long after I left the lounge for my connecting flight.
Final Verdict
Airport lounges are meant to make travel easier. The Kenya Airways Pride Lounge does exactly that. It combines comfortable seating, quality dining, reliable Wi-Fi, attentive service and one of the finest apron views available anywhere in Africa.

Whether you want to work, enjoy a well-curated meal, relax before your flight or simply watch aircraft movements, the lounge offers the right environment.
My only regret was that my connecting flight departed sooner than I would have liked. Thirty minutes was enough to appreciate what the lounge had to offer, but not enough to experience everything at a more leisurely pace. If a lounge makes you wish your layover were a little longer, it has probably done something right. This one did.
That, perhaps, is the strongest compliment I can give it.
