Ethiopian Airlines to Make African Aviation History with 100th Aircraft

Ethiopian Airlines is set to make history again when it takes delivery of its 100th aircraft, a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner on 5 June 2018.

The milestone will make Ethiopian the first African airline to operate 100 aircraft fleet in the history of the continent, thus maintaining its pioneering aviation leadership role in Africa.

Ethiopian was the first airline to operate jet service in Africa back in 1962, and operated the first African Boeing 767 in 1984, the first African Boeing 777-200LR in 2010.

The airline also operated Africa's first Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner and Boeing 777-200 freighter in 2012 and the first African Airbus A350 in 2016 and the first African Boeing 787-9 in 2017.

The airline's new and cutting-edge fleet composed of Boeing 787s and Airbus A350s offer unparalleled on-board comfort to customers and offer the best possible connections.

This 100 fleet milestone which the airline has achieved ahead of its Vision 2025 targets, compels it to revise its plans with a view to phase in more aircraft and further expand its network.

Ethiopian operates a mix of state-of-the-art aircraft with an average fleet age of five years. The Airline has 5 more Boeing 787-9 and 16 Airbus A350 airplanes on order, among others.

Ethiopian was the first African Airline and second only to Japan to operate the Boeing 787 Dreamliner in 2012 and the first carrier in Africa to usher with the Airbus A350 XWB in 2016.

From its hub in Addis Ababa, Ethiopian Airlines flies to over 110 domestic and international destinations covering 5 continents.
