United Boeing 737-800 performing flight 1031 from Panama City to Houston on Tuesday was enroute about 80nm east of Cancun (Mexico) when the aircraft encountered turbulence causing injuries to 9 passengers and one cabin crew.

The aircraft continued to Houston for a safe landing at about 2:30 p.m. local time. Emergency services transported 9 passengers and one cabin crew to hospitals, a number of them on stretchers and with neck braces.

According to Aviation Voice, the FAA reported the aircraft was enroute about 80nm east of Cancun when the aircraft encountered severe turbulence.

It was not immediately clear on Wednesday what the conditions of those taken to the hospital were.
