United is expecting to carry around 3.1M passengers over the Labor Day travel period between Thursday, August 28 and Tuesday, September 2 – about 220,000 more than last year. This would be the most passengers we’ve ever flown over the Labor Day holiday.

It is also expected that about 50M people will have flown United this June, July and August – a new record high.

Labor Day Travel Trends

  • United will fly on average more than 500,000 people a day and operate about 4,500 flights every day during the Labor Day holiday travel period.

  • Friday, Aug. 29 and Monday, Sept. 1 will be the busiest travel days with around 550,000 passengers each day.

  • Top domestic destinations include Las Vegas, NV, Orlando, FL and Boston, MA

  • International bookings are up more than 10% compared to last year, top destinations include London, Frankfurt and Cancun.

Travelers are planning Labor Day weekend trips to United’s new summer destinations, including Palermo, Faro and Bilbao.

Tips and Technology

  • Tight connection? United has your back! The airline now offers personalized features in our mobile app that make it easier to catch connecting flights including turn-by-turn directions to the connecting gate with estimated walk times, real-time flight status updates, tips for longer layovers, and notifications if United's ConnectionSaver technology has been activated to hold the plane. More than 700,000 travelers have used these features so far this year – and more than 90% of them made their connecting flight.

  • Break the Wi-Fi barrier with Starlink: Gate-to-gate, living-room quality Wi-Fi is now available on more than 60 United regional jets – with more regional jets coming online every day! And – it’s free for United MileagePlus® members, learn more at united.com/starlink.

  • Save 30 minutes at the airport with the United App: Every second counts on busy holiday travel weekends, and the best way to save time at the airport is to download the United app. Features like mobile check-in, online bag check, personalized wayfinding and live flight updates can save up to 30 minutes (which is just enough time to check out our newest United Clubsm in DEN).

  • Speed through security with TSA PreCheck Touchless ID: Speaking of saving time – TSA PreCheck Touchless ID is now available for United customers at 12 U.S. airports including Chicago (ORD), Los Angeles (LAX), New York (EWR and LGA), Denver (DEN), San Francisco (SFO), Atlanta (ATL), Portland (PDX), Salt Lake City (SLC), D.C. (DCA), Seattle (SEA) and Las Vegas (LAS). Travelers go through a dedicated security lane where TSA agents use facial recognition technology to verify their identity instead of a physical ID – learn more here.

  • Enjoy trending entertainment from Apple TV+ and Spotify: Catch up on the most popular TV+ shows from Apple TV+, plus podcasts, playlists and audiobooks from Spotify – all available on your seatback screen.
