Lufthansa is set to resume regular flight operations to the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja on April 20 following the planned reopening of the airport on April 19.

Speaking to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Sunday, the Airline’s Communication Manager in Nigeria, Mr Hakeem Jimo, said Lufthansa was ready to resume operation in Abuja when the airport reopens.

Nigeria's Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo had on Friday expressed satisfaction with the level of work on the runway when he was told that the work had reached 80 per cent completion.

The federal government of Nigeria on 6 March, 2017 closed the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport Abuja for repairs on the runways and designated Kaduna airport as alternative during the repairs.

Lufthansa and other international airlines, including Air France, KLM, Turkish Airlines, British Airways and South African Airways had suspended their services to Abuja instead of flying to Kaduna as an alternative airport.

Only Ethiopian Airlines and the local Nigerian airlines have been using the Kaduna airport while Abuja airport is closed for repairs.

In addition to its services to Abuja, Lufthansa also flies daily from Frankfurt to Lagos and Port Harcourt using the Airbus A330-300.
