On a Sad Note: KLM Stops Flying to Two African Destinations

September 28, 2018

On a sad note, KLM will stop flight operations to two African destinations including Freetown in Sierra Leone and Monrovia in Liberia with effect from 29 March 2019.

KLM cited Schiphol’s slot restrictions as the reason which it said forced it to revise its portfolio of destinations sooner than expected. It will rather deploy the resources to a new route to Las Vegas in the U.S.

According to KLM, the Freetown/Monrovia route would have been given more time to grow, but it was compelled to deploy its fleet and slots differently. KLM launched the Freetown/Monrovia route in 2017

Passengers with a reservation for a flight after 29 March 2019 from Amsterdam to Freetown or Monrovia will either be rebooked or reimbursed.

Air France will continue to operate its direct service to Freetown from Paris Charles de Gaulle.
