May 31, 2018

A KLM pilot was on Monday arrested at Oslo Airport in Norway for being intoxicated as he was preparing to fly a plane from Oslo back to Amsterdam Schiphol Airport in the Netherlands.

Norway has a zero tolerance for alcohol and according to Norwegian law, the pilot will be held in custody for at least 2 weeks.

In a statement, KLM said "The authorities in Oslo, Norway, have arrested a pilot following an alcohol test at the airport. We cannot give any further comment on this case, as an investigation is currently underway.

More generally, KLM would like to reassert its firm conviction that alcohol and flying do not go together. Safety is always our chief priority".

According to Norwegian newspaper Verdens Gang, the pilot who is aged between 35 and 40, has engaged a lawyer and filed an appeal. The case may be judged next week.

In April, a 35-year-old pilot was arrested at Amsterdam Schiphol Airport for taking too much alcohol. He had 0.09% alcohol in his blood while the maximum level for pilots is 0.02%
