Nigeria’s Air Peace on Friday took delivery of a Boeing B777-200ER aircraft, becoming the first and only Nigerian airline to procure and register the brand of airliner in the country.
The aircraft which was flown in by the Chief Pilot of the airline, Captain Victor Egonu and Captain Simon Donoghue, touched down at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos at about 3.45 pm on Friday, to a rousing welcome by an excited team from Air Peace led by Allen Onyema, its Chairman.
The long-haul aircraft with registration mark 5N-BVE bears “Ifechukwu”, the middle name of the Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of Air Peace, Mr. Allen Onyema.
The development is coming just weeks after the airline took delivery of two Embraer 145 aircraft and set up a subsidiary, Air Peace Hopper to organize its short-haul operations.
The 274-seat aircraft is the first of two Boeing 777s Air Peace acquired to launch international operations to Dubai, London, Guangzhou-China, Houston, Mumbai and Johannesburg.
The airline is finalizing talks to add two more Boeing 777 aircraft to its fleet soon.
It will be recalled that Air Peace expanded its West African operations with the launch of flights to Banjul, Freetown and Dakar on February 19.
