Ethiopian Airlines will commence direct flight from Addis Ababa to Chicago, USA with effect from 9 June, 2018.
The three-weekly service will be operated with a Boeing 787-8. Outbound flights will operate on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays while inbound will operate on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays.
The Boeing 787 is one of the most technologically advanced aircraft in Ethiopian Airlines fleet, featuring up-to-date amenities with redefined travel experiences.
Passengers from Africa will connect to Chicago and beyond through Addis Ababa in the late evenings while inbound passengers will connect to Africa in the morning through Addis Ababa.
Chicago will be Ethiopian's 4th destination in the U.S. and 7th in the Americas. Chicago is the third biggest city in the U.S. and one of the most important global aviation hubs.
Ethiopian Airlines will be filling a critical air connectivity vacuum as the flights will be the only direct service between Chicago and Africa.
The new service will boost the economic and diplomatic relations between the U.S. and Africa in general and Ethiopia in particular by encouraging the flow of trade, investment and tourism.
