Boeing today, at the 2017 Paris Air Show, launched the larger capacity 737 MAX 10 as the newest member of its successful narrow-body offering, Boeing 737 MAX family.
The 737 MAX 10 will carry up to 230 passengers in 1-class configuration or 188 passengers in 2-class configuration. It will have the lowest seat-mile cost of any single-aisle airplane ever produced, according to Boeing.
Design changes for the 737 MAX 10 include a fuselage stretch of 66 inches compared to the 737 MAX 9 and levered main landing gear. The new airplane will have an overall length of 43.8 m (143 ft 8 in)
Other changes include a variable exit limit rating mid-exit door, a lighter flat aft pressure bulkhead and a modified wing for low speed drag reduction.
The airplane has already gained wide market acceptance with more than 285 orders and commitments from more than 10 customers including lessors and airlines, announced on the day one of the Paris Air Show.
However, some of the orders announced today are conversions from previous orders of other 737 MAX members including the 737 MAX 8 and 737 MAX 9.
Boeing claims the 737 MAX 10 will continue the MAX family's range advantage over competing models and will deliver five percent lower trip costs and five percent lower seat-mile costs than Airbus's A321neo which is heavier.
Like Boeing's other 737 MAX models, the 737 MAX 10 incorporates the latest technology CFM International LEAP-1B engines, Advanced Technology winglets, Boeing Sky Interior, large flight deck displays, and other improvements to deliver the highest efficiency, reliability and passenger comfort in the single-aisle market.
The 737 MAX continues to be the fastest-selling airplane in Boeing history, accumulating more than 3,700 orders to date. More orders from more customers are expected to be announced throughout the week in Paris.
The first MAX variant, the 737 MAX 8 has entered commercial service and will followed by the MAX 9, MAX 7 and the MAX 10, which will be introduced in the 2020 time frame.
Boeing was forced into launching the Boeing 737 MAX 10 due to the competitive advantage of the A321neo over its poor selling 737 MAX 9.
