NCAA Hosts BAGASOO 4th Technical Committee Training Meeting

The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) played host to the 4th Technical Committee Training (TCT-04) meeting of the Banjul Accord Group Aviation Safety Oversight Organization (BAGASOO).

The strategic meeting, held in Lagos between 14th and 18th September, 2026 was to plan and discuss the proposed work programme for 2027; review issues of Legal safety management, set training standards, Aeromedical, navigational policy, Aviation Security, Technical issues, On-The-Job as well as make recommendations that will enhance regional aviation safety oversight.

Delivering his closing remarks, the Director General Civil Aviation (DGCA), Capt. Chris Najomo, represented by the Regional Manager, NCAA Lagos Office, Barr Olubukola Teriba, commended the technical committee for their efforts over the past five (5) days.

According to the DGCA, aviation safety is a shared responsibility and as such, competence - which should be entrusted to effective people to operate and regulate - is one of its strongest foundations.

While admonishing the leadership to continue to commit to training, knowledge sharing and regional cooperation that will strengthen aviation safety oversight, he expressed optimism that decisions, recommendations and outcomes of the meeting will translate into strong institutions and safer systems across the member states.

The Vice-Chairperson of the Technical Committee, Ms Elsa Fernandes, (from Cabo Verde), while thanking all member states for their participation, outlined areas covered in the course of the strategic meeting; stating that the remaining important areas will be discussed when they meet next year.

She also appreciated the DGCA, Capt. Najomo and the Lagos Regional Manager, Barr Teriba for the warm hospitality given to the entire team throughout the TCT meeting.

Member states in attendance included Sierra Leone, The Gambia, Nigeria, Cabo Verde and Ghana (virtual).

The Technical Committee Training (TCT) meeting is a specialized capacity-building programme conducted by BAGASOO to enhance regional aviation oversight.
