NCAA and SLAMEN Strengthen Collaboration on Aviation Maintenance

The Director-General of the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), Capt. Chris Najomo, has reaffirmed the Authority's commitment to supporting the development of Nigeria's aviation maintenance sector following a courtesy visit by the leadership of the Society of Licensed Aircraft Maintenance Engineers of Nigeria (SLAMEN).

The SLAMEN Executive Committee, led by its President, Engr. Mubarak Haladu, visited the NCAA Corporate Headquarters in Abuja on Wednesday, 22 July 2026, to discuss areas of mutual interest and deepen collaboration between both organisations.

The meeting focused on strengthening cooperation in key areas that will support the sustainable growth of Nigeria's aviation maintenance sub-sector and the wider aviation industry. Discussions also covered several strategic issues requiring closer engagement between the regulator and maintenance professionals.

Capt. Najomo encouraged SLAMEN to sustain its efforts in developing local capacity through training, knowledge sharing and mentorship. He also stressed the need to continue promoting a strong safety culture among aircraft maintenance engineers, describing it as essential to the continued growth of the industry.

One of the highlights of the visit was the presentation of a commemorative plaque to the NCAA Director-General in  recognition of his leadership and contributions to the growth and development of Nigeria's aviation industry since assuming office.

Among the NCAA officials present were the Director of Operations, Licensing and Training Standards, Capt. Donald Spiff; General Manager, Air Maintenance Organisation Certification and Surveillance, Engr. Suleiman Akwuh; Regional Manager, NCAA Abuja Office, Engr. Akinola Bello; and Technical Assistant to the Director-General, Engr. Ini Abasi-Udofia, alongside other senior officials.

SLAMEN is the umbrella professional body representing Licensed Aircraft Maintenance Engineers in Nigeria and plays a key role in advancing professional standards, technical competence and safety within the country's aviation maintenance sector.
