The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), in collaboration with the supervising Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development, hosted the 2025 Judges' Conference to deepen understanding of the intersection between international conventions and national judicial interpretation.
The annual conference, themed:"The Role of Judges in Sustaining Nigeria's Adherence to Applicable International Conventions in Relation to Carriage by Air,"' was held on Thursday, 16th October, 2025 in Abuja.
In his keynote address, the Hon. Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Mr. Festus Keyamo (SAN), underscored the vital role of the judiciary in ensuring Nigeria’s continued adherence to global aviation conventions, safeguarding passenger rights and strengthening regulatory compliance.
The Director-General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), Capt. Chris Najomo, in his welcome remarks, emphasized the importance of judicial collaboration in sustaining Nigeria’s commitment to international best practices, noting that the judiciary gives permanence and legitimacy to regulatory efforts in the aviation sector.
The event was graced by Dr. Ibrahim A. Kana, Perm. Secretary, FMAAD; Federal High Court and other Higher Court Judges, including Justice Binta Nyako, the NCAA Management team; senior officials from the Federal Ministry of Justice as well as members of the Airline Operators of Nigeria (AON), external solicitors, aviation law experts and industry stakeholders.
