The Director-General Civil Aviation (DGCA), Capt. Chris Najomo, has tasked the new Flight Standards Group (FSG) personnel to champion safety and promote regulatory compliance which are key drivers of the Authority’s safety oversight mandate.

Capt. Najomo, represented by the Director, Airworthiness Standards and Chairman of the FSG, Engr. Godwin Balang, made this call at the opening ceremony of the five-day FSG indoctrination course starting today 3rd August, 2026 at the NCAA Lagos Office Annex in Ikeja.

He emphasized that the new officers must uphold integrity, technical competence, and professionalism as they discharge their assigned duties.

The DGCA noted that their role is critical to sustaining safety oversight and promoting a proactive safety culture in Nigeria’s aviation industry in line with the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) standards.

Capt. Najomo, however, assured them of management’s deep commitment to continuous training and retraining as well as provision of tools needed to deliver on the job.

Delivering her welcome address the Director, Human Resources & Administration (DHR&A), Dr (Mrs) Anastasia Gbem, admonished the new staff to embrace integrity, professionalism and be safety conscious.

In her opening remarks, the Regional Manager, NCAA Lagos Office, Mrs Olubukola Teriba, disclosed that the aviation industry is dynamic and safety-centred, noting that effectiveness of the regulatory system depends heavily on the competence, professionalism and preparedness of the officers.

While congratulating the new officers, she, however, charged them to ensure compliance with established safety standards.
