ICAO Director Lauds Captain Najomo for Professionalizing Workforce

The Director, Capacity Development and Implementation Bureau (CDI) at the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), Fabio Rabbani, has lauded Nigeria's Director-General Civil Aviation (DGCA), Capt. Chris Najomo, for prioritising staff training in partnership with ICAO, International Air Transport Association (IATA), and other world-class capacity development institutes.

Mr Rabbani made the commendation on the sidelines of the 11th edition of ICAO Africa-Indian Ocean (AFI) Aviation Week holding in Cairo, Egypt between 27th and 31st July, 2026.

He stated that, because of this, the NCAA is a leading CAA on the continent, and the CDI looks forward to further collaborations that will strengthen Nigeria's civil aviation regulatory agency.

In his response, Capt. Chris Najomo reaffirmed his commitment to making the NCAA better than he met it following his appointment as DGCA.

Capt. Najomo mentioned that he has widened the training net from officers on Grade Level 14 and above to capture staffers from Level 10.

"We need to catch them young and train them in order to make the Authority better equipped to carry out its oversight functions," the DGCA said.
