Nigeria’s aviation industry recorded another milestone on Monday as BINANI AIR successfully operated its inaugural commercial flight to Lagos, further expanding its growing network and reinforcing connectivity between two of Nigeria’s busiest cities.
Operated by an Embraer E170 aircraft, the Abuja-Lagos flight departed amid excitement from passengers, aviation stakeholders and airline officials, eventually arriving in Lagos smoothly, with travellers commending the airline’s professionalism, punctuality and overall onboard experience.
For a young Nigerian carrier, launching operations into Lagos is more than just another route addition. It is a statement of intent.

Speaking ahead of the inaugural flight, the Group President of BINANI AIR described the Lagos operation as a strategic step in the airline’s broader vision of building a reliable, customer-focused indigenous carrier capable of meeting the evolving travel needs of Nigerians.
According to her, the successful commencement of Lagos flights reflects the airline’s commitment to contributing meaningfully to economic growth, business mobility and national integration through efficient air transport services.
“Today’s flight to Lagos represents more than an expansion of routes; it reflects our commitment to connecting people, businesses and opportunities across Nigeria,” she stated.
She further emphasised that the airline is being built on the pillars of safety, discipline, professionalism and service excellence, adding that consistency and reliability would remain central to earning the confidence of Nigerian travellers.
The Group President also expressed appreciation to passengers for the trust already shown in the airline within its early days of operation, assuring them that operational safety and customer satisfaction would continue to remain top priorities.
Also speaking, Chairperson Ashatu Dahiru Binani noted that the airline remains committed to supporting the Federal Government’s drive towards economic growth and improved transportation infrastructure.
She commended the administration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu for policies aimed at encouraging private sector participation within Nigeria’s aviation industry, stressing that sustained collaboration between regulators and operators remains essential for the sector’s growth and long-term sustainability.
According to her, Lagos represents a strategic commercial destination for the airline and the successful launch of operations into the city marks another important phase in BINANI AIR’s expansion journey.
She further assured passengers that the airline would continue to uphold global best practices while investing in manpower development, operational efficiency and quality service delivery.
Passengers onboard the inaugural Lagos flight also shared positive feedback about the experience, particularly highlighting the airline’s organised boarding process, timely departure and professionalism of the cabin crew.
One passenger described the check-in and boarding process as orderly and stress-free, noting that consistency in service delivery would position the airline favourably among Nigerian travellers.
Another traveller commended the professionalism displayed throughout the journey, describing the onboard experience as pleasant and encouraging for Nigeria’s growing aviation sector.
A Lagos-based entrepreneur also pointed to the affordability of fares and smooth coordination of operations as strong indicators of the airline’s future potential, adding that increased competition within the sector would ultimately benefit passengers.
Meanwhile, airline officials at both the Abuja and Lagos stations stated that the Lagos route is expected to improve travel options for passengers while supporting commerce, tourism and regional connectivity across Nigeria.
At a time when Nigeria’s aviation industry continues to navigate operational and economic challenges, the successful launch of another domestic route by an indigenous airline reflects the resilience, ambition and growing potential within the sector.
