Ms. Adeyemi, who originally resumed as the Secretary General of AFCAC on 1 September 2022, was reappointed in November 2024 and will continue to carry out the Commission's mission to promote safe, secure, sustainable, and connected air transport across the African continent. Her reappointment reflects the confidence of AFCAC's Bureau and the African Union member states in her strategic vision, leadership and performance during her first term.
"It is an honour to continue serving Africa and its people through aviation and AFCAC," said Ms. Adeyemi. "As we advance the full implementation of the Single African Air Transport Market (SAATM), strengthen aviation Safety, Security, Air Transport and champion Environmental Sustainability, resilience and inclusion, I remain deeply committed to contributing towards a unified Africa aviation."
Under Ms. Adeyemi's leadership, AFCAC has:
Enhanced support for Member States in areas of aviation Safety oversight, Security compliance, and Capacity development.
Accelerated the operationalization of SAATM, the African Union's flagship initiative to liberalize air transport. Strengthened partnerships with a wide range of stakeholders including AUC, ICAO, RECs, sister Organizations from other regions, industry and other global stakeholders.
Advocated for equitable and inclusive policies, especially regarding climate action, youth empowerment, and gender equity in aviation.
Prior to her AFCAC role, Adeyemi had an esteemed career at IATA, where she served as Regional Director of External Affairs & Sustainability for Africa. She became a leading advocate for the Single African Air Transport Market (SAATM) and a Private Sector Champion of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).
Adeyemi's aviation career began as a lawyer in Nigeria, later serving as Company Secretary and General Counsel for Virgin Nigeria Airways, before transitioning to her various roles at IATA.
Her second term is expected to continue reinforcing and delivering on AFCAC's mandate and role as a unifying voice for African aviation and a key driver of the African Union's Agenda 2063 goals for continental integration and sustainable development.
