Following engagements with various embassies, South African Airways will evacuate foreign nationals to their various countries as the COVID-19 pandemic escalates.

The first batch of the flights will be for the repatriation of German citizens, and will operate from Friday, 3 April 2020 from Johannesburg to Munich and Cape Town to Frankfurt.

The evacuation flights are commercial in nature and will operate subject to the health and safety provisions contained in the regulations and other relevant provisions during the lockdown.

These flights are not medical evacuation flights and not for the transportation of individuals who have tested positive for Covid-19. Individuals who have tested positive for Covid-19 will not be allowed on any of these flights.

All passengers would be subject to the screening protocols prior to departure as required by the South African authorities and the airline’s policies. Any passengers that present flu-like symptoms will not be allowed on any of these flights.

According to the airline, negotiations are ongoing with other governments for the repatriation of their citizens.
