Kenya Airways has released a statement on an accident involving a shuttle van carrying its passengers.

According to the statement, the shuttle van conveying some passengers was involved in an accident along Mombasa Road on Monday, 13th August 2018 at around 2:00am.

The van was hit from behind by a trailer throwing it off the road, injuring 33 passengers. The driver of the truck did not stop after the accident.

The passengers had been scheduled to leave for Bangkok, Thailand last night, but due to a technical problem on the scheduled aircraft, the flight was rescheduled, prompting the airline to accommodate the guests at a hotel.

The injured passengers are now being treated at various hospitals in Nairobi. This also includes the driver of the van.

Kenya Airways Security and Kenya Police were deployed to the scene at the time of the accident.

Investigations are underway to identify and arrest the driver of the truck, which did not stop following the accident.

Kenya Airways, in the statement, thanked all its employees, security agencies, medics and all other stakeholders for their support following the accident.

The airline promised to issue further statements on the situation.
