Meliá Hotels to Eliminate Single-Use Plastics in 2018

To reduce the effect pollution on environment and enhance customer experience, Meliá Hotels International will eliminate single-use plastics across all its Hotels and resort in 2018.
The Executive Vice President and CEO of Meliá Hotels, Gabriel Escarrer Jaume, made the announcement at the Group’s General Shareholders’ Meeting earlier in June.
For the Meliá CEO, the decision to eliminate single-use plastics from its entire value chain will have a significant positive impact on the planet as it will help in reducing pollution.
In 2017 alone, over 22 million plastic bottles were consumed in Company hotels. Elimination of plastics will prevent over 15 tonnes of CO2 emissions each year generated by waste disposal.
