Africa World Airlines (AWA) has begun scheduled flights between Accra, Ghana and Freetown, the capital of Sierra Leone, reports Voyages Afriq.

The maiden flight was on Monday, May 21, 2018 with flight AW344 touching down at approximately 1:15pm local time at the Lungi International Airport, Freetown.

On board the inaugural flight among other passengers, were Ghana’s Deputy Aviation Minister, Kwabena Okyere Darko Mensah, top management of AWA, and the media.

The Freetown flight brings to four, the number of destinations being serviced by AWA beyond Ghana with Abidjan, Dakar, and Banjul still in the planned before the year ends.

At a brief inauguration ceremony, Kwabena Okeyre Darko described the flight as an important milestone for both Ghana and Sierra Leone in the area of passenger and cargo transport.

AWA’s Chief Safety Officer, Captain Kwasi Oteng said the airline will continue to build on their safety and security record to ensure that passengers enjoy seamless air transport services.

According to Captain Oteng, AWA will introduce bigger aircraft to meet the demands but insists that delivering safe operations remains paramount to the airline.

Africa World Airlines will operate a thrice-weekly service between Accra and Freetown. The flights will be on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays.
