The government of Rwanda has appointed Yvonne Manzi Makolo as the new substantive Chief Executive Officer RwandAir, its national carrier. The appointment was announced on Friday.

Ms Makolo takes over from Colonel Chance Ndagano who has been the CEO of the East African airline in an acting capacity for exactly 12 months.

President, Paul Kagame had on 5 April, 2017 appointed Chance Ndagano as the acting CEO of RwandAir following the sack of John Mirenge who had been the CEO since 2010.

Yvonne Manzi Makolo has been working with RwandAir for years having joined the airline from MTN Rwanda where she served as the chief marketing officer.

Before her appointment as the new Chief Executive Officer, Ms Makolo was the Deputy CEO in Charge of Corporate Affairs at the state-owned airline, a post she held for one year.

RwandAir is currently in the middle of an aggressive network expansion drive with plans to launch direct flights to China, Abuja, Cape Town and the United States of America.

With a young fleet of 12 aircraft, RwandAir currently flies to 24 domestic and international destinations in Africa, Asia and Europe including Mumbai, London and Brussels.
