Pilot Arrested For Carrying Loaded Gun in His Duty Bag
A Southwest Airlines co-pilot was arrested on Wednesday for attempting to carry a loaded gun through security at St. Louis Lambert International Airport, Missouri, United States.
According to reports, airport police arrested the 51-year-old First Officer at about 4:45 a.m after Transportation Security Administration officers discovered a 9mm pistol loaded with seven rounds of ammunition in his carry-on bag at the security checkpoint.
The arrested first officer was supposed to co-pilot a Southwest Airlines flight 1106 from St. Louis to Las Vegas. The flight was scheduled to depart by 5:15 am but was delayed for 45 minutes.
In a statement on Wednesday, the airport said the suspect did not have a permit or any other authorization to carry a firearm.
Carrying a weapon through airport security is a federal crime. Charges are pending and will be handled through St. Louis County.
