southwest airlines

Almost 46 years after it started operations, Southwest Airlines has reached a milestone by taking delivery of its 737th brand new Boeing 737 aircraft last Thursday.

To mark the occasion, Boeing hosted a ribbon cutting and signing ceremony at their Seattle Delivery Center.

On hand to officially accept the 737th (N8533S) were Southwest’s Managers of Aircraft Field Services Bill Rogers and Peggy Hain.

According to the airline, the 737th Boeing 737 will undergo installation of winglets and WiFi before it takes to the skies. With this delivery, Southwest will maintain the distinction of being the world’s largest operator of an all-Boeing fleet.

Headquartered in Dallas, Texas, Southwest Airlines is the world's largest low-cost carrier. It started on June 18, 1971 with only three aircraft. It currently operates a fleet of 727 Boeing 737 aircraft.
