Nairobi based low cost carrier, Jambojet, has secured approvals and Air Services Licence (ASL) from Kenya's Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA) to commence international operations.

According to a Kenyan government document issued on Friday, May 26, Jambojet has been cleared to operate scheduled international flights from Nairobi to/from Entebbe/Kampala (Uganda), Addis Ababa (Ethiopia), Dar-es-Salaam, Zanzibar, Kilimanjaro, and Mwanza (Tanzania).

Other international destinations include Kigali (Rwanda), Juba (South Sudan), Bujumbura (Burundi), Hargeisa and Mogadishu (Somalia), Goma and Kisangani (Democratic Republic of Congo), Moroni Int'l (Comoros), and Lilongwe and Blantyre (Malawi).

The Air Service License, which took effect from May 4, 2017 is valid for one year and will allow only the use of Boeing 737, Bombardier DHC-8, and ATR72 aircraft.

According to Jambojet's CEO Willem Hondius who spoke to Kenya's Standard, no date had been fixed for the launch of international operations.

Hondius added that once the ball does start to roll insofar as their launch is concerned, the flights will complement, rather than compete with, Kenya Airways' operations.

Jambojet is a Kenyan low-cost airline that started operations in 2014. It is a subsidiary of Kenya Airways and is headquartered in Nairobi, Kenya.
