Nigeria's Medview Airlines has announced its readiness to commence direct flight services between Murtala Muhammed International Airport Lagos and Dubai with effect from 4 July 2017.

Announcing this in Lagos on Tuesday, the Chief Executive Officer of the airline, Alhaji Muneer Bankole, said that the airline had secured the necessary permit from the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) of Dubai.

“We will be honest to tell you that Dubai has been in the front burner for a couple of months; the rule of the game is that you need to have what it takes.

“We have submitted the details, worked around the CAA, have gotten the permit, put the employees on ground and now we’re ready to open up the route.

According to Bankole, the Lagos-Dubai service will initially operate twice a week on Tuesdays and Saturdays.

Currently, Emirates is the only airline that operates direct flights between Nigeria and Dubai with its daily service from Lagos. Qatar Airways and Etihad Airways fly from Lagos to neighboring Qatar and Abu Dhabi respectively.

The entrance of the Airline to the lucrative route will bring a sigh of relief to Nigerians who have resorted to flying through other hubs due to Emirates high fares.

Medview Airlines would soon take delivery of two additional aircraft, a Boeing 777 and a Boeing 737-800, to boost its fleet, according to the CEO.

The airline also announced they would increase frequency to London in addition to commencing services to the Francophone countries of Cote’ de Ivoire, Guinea and Senegal.
