Trump's Travel Policies: Emirates Cuts Flights to the US

The series of travel bans and immigration policies introduced by the American President, Donald Trump may have already claimed its first victims, but interestingly, they are not the targeted terrorists.

Emirates on Wednesday, announced plans to reduce services to the United States as a result of weakened demands for travels to the US following Trump's restrictive travel policies.

Speaking to Business Insider, Emirates said it will cut down on the number of flights to five of the 12 destinations it flies to in the US.

Starting May 1, flights to Fort Lauderdale, Florida, will be reduced from daily to five-weekly. The same cuts will also apply to its Orlando, Florida, service with effect from May 23.

Starting June 1 and 2, Seattle and Boston service will be reduced to a single daily flight from two previously. Finally, beginning July 1, Emirates' twice-daily service to Los Angeles will be cut down to a single flight.

"This is a commercial decision in response to weakened travel demand to US," an airline representative told Business Insider. "The recent actions taken by the have had a direct impact on consumer interest and demand for air travel into the US."

Emirates which had been experiencing steady growth in the US is now suffering the impact of the Donald Trump's travel policies relating to the issuance of visas, heightened security vetting, and restrictions on electronic devices.

Ironically, the travel bans and its effects on the Middle East airlines appear to be a good news for America's Delta, United and American Airlines who have been complaining about competition from Emirates, Etihad, and Qatar Airways.
