Not too long from now, boarding your flight may become even easier than the proverbial ABC as the traditional boarding pass and passport checks will be replaced by a scanner that knows you.
Amsterdam Schiphol Airport and KLM have started test-running “biometric boarding” – a boarding process that doesn't require passengers to show their boarding passes or passports at the boarding gate.
The process allows passengers to board the aircraft quickly and easily using a special door that recognizes passengers by scanning their faces.
With this test, Amsterdam Schiphol and KLM want to study the technology of facial recognition, the system’s speed, reliability and user-friendliness.
The test which will last for three months, will also examine the boarding process and the passenger experience with the ultimate being to introduce it to regular airport operations if proven reliable.
Schiphol and its partners are constantly working to develop innovations and create smart ways of improving ease of travel, speed, and airport processes.
