Ghana based Africa World Airlines (AWA) has started an inter-regional flight between the Ashanti regional capital Kumasi and Tamale in the Northern Region.

The airline now operates four weekly flights between the two capitals, an initiative that has been welcomed by businesses operating in the two cities.

The Kumasi-Tamale direct flight is operated four times a week -- Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays on an ERJ 145 aircraft.

The Kumasi-Tamale flights depart the Kumasi Airport at 10:25am and arrive in Tamale at 11:15am. The return flight departs Tamale at 11: 45am and arrives back in Kumasi at 12:35pm.

This will be the only inter-regional flight outside Accra in the country, as all other airlines operate from the Kotoka International Airport (KIA), Accra, to other regional capitals.

AWA is offering an introductory fare of GH¢199 tax-inclusive on the Kumasi-Tamale route.

Richard Kyereh, Deputy Head of Commercial, AWA, said the new direct service between Kumasi and Tamale is to complement the airline’s existing flight schedule from Accra-Kumasi and Accra-Tamale.
