Air India Operates World's Longest All-Women Flight

Air India is celebrating International Women’s Day this year in a very unique way as it operated the world's longest all-women flight.

The airline announced its March 6 Flight AI173 from New Delhi to San Francisco was manned by an all women crew, from the cabin right up to the cockpit. It's the longest flight of its kind.

On the flight deck of the Boeing 777-200LR were Captain Kshamta Bajpayee and Captain Shubhangi Singh, while the First Officers were Captain Ramya Kirti Gupta and Captain Amrit Namdhari.

Flight AI173 travelled a distance of around 14,500 km, close to 17 hours, operated as part of International Women's Day 2016 celebrations.

According to the airline’s Twitter page, the flight “took off with pride and glory,” calling it "a record."

On March 8, Air India said it plans to send 22 more flights into the skies with all women crews.
