According to UK-based aviation data monitors OAG, airBaltic was the world’s most punctual airline in 2015.

Latvia’s national carrier operated 42,000 flights to 40 different destinations last year and just under 95 percent of them arrived within 15 minutes of their scheduled arrival time.

Hawaiian Airlines had the second best punctuality rate of all major airlines with an average on-time performance of 92.3 percent. Austrian Airlines rounded off the top three with 90 percent of its flights arriving on schedule. America’s airlines are conspicuous by their absence from OAG’s statistics.

The rest of the top 10 includes: Iberia (89.7%), KLM (89.4%), Saudi Arabian Airlines (89.4%), SAS (89.1%), Japan Airlines (88.8%), Finnair (88.6) and Alaska Airlines (88.5%).

Norwegian Air Shuttle was named the most punctual low-cost carrier, with almost nine out of 10 flights sticking to schedule. It was followed by Thai AirAsia and EasyJet.

Out of the world’s top 20 most punctual airlines, 13 are European. With the exception of Hawaiiwan and Alaska Airlines (twelfth overall with a punctuality rate of 88.5 percent), no carriers based in the Americas broke into the top 20.
