Following further relaxation of COVID-19 lockdowns, Lufthansa is significantly expanding their services in the second half of June with focus on summer tourist destinations. The aim is to make as many destinations as possible accessible for holidaymakers and business travelers and thus expand the European and intercontinental network for holidaymakers and business travelers. Starting from 15 June, Lufthansa alone will be resuming around 20 German and European destinations from Frankfurt and as many as 34 from Munich. COVID-19: WTM Portfolio Reschedules Global Trade Shows

Reed Travel Exhibitions has rescheduled the dates for the three spring global trade shows in its WTM Portfolio: WTM Latin America, Arabian Travel Market (ATM) and Africa Travel Week, comprising of WTM Africa and International Luxury Travel Market Africa. The original dates of the events have had to be changed in response to the escalation of the global COVID-19 pandemic. Arabian Travel Market has been rescheduled from 19-22 April 2020 at Dubai World Trade Centre, UAE, to the new date of 16 May – 19 May 2021 at the same venue. Kenya Airways Revenue Increases as Passenger Numbers Grow

Kenya Airways (KQ) has recorded a 12.4% increase in revenue for the year ended December 31, 2019, from Kshs 114,185 million in 2018 to Kshs. 128,317 million. The positive performance has been attributed to the expansion of the network, improved passenger, cargo, ancillaries, and other revenue streams. In the year under review, the airline invested in new routes by introducing Geneva, Rome and Malindi to the network. This investment in new strategic routes contributed a 6.7% increase in passenger numbers to hit a record 5.1 million passengers. KLM Trials Sustainable Taxiing at Schiphol Airport with Taxibot

KLM has started taking part in a trial at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol to test sustainable ways to taxi aircraft. The trial is being carried out with a Taxibot. During the test yesterday, an empty KLM Boeing 737 was towed to the runway by the Taxibot. This is expected to reduce fuel consumption during taxiing by 50% to 85%. This is a hybrid towing vehicle which, unlike the normal pushback trucks, is licenced to tow full aircraft to near the start of the runway, without the aircraft having to start its engines. COVID-19 Crisis: Lufthansa to Receive Stabilization Package

Lufthansa will receive Economic Stabilization Fund (WSF) and loans of up to EUR 9 billion from the Federal Republic of Germany to help it recover from the COVID-19 losses. The WSF will make silent participations of up to 5.7 billion Euros in total in the assets of Lufthansa. Of this amount, approximately EUR 4.7 billion is classified as equity. In this amount, the silent participation is unlimited in time and can be terminated by the company on a quarterly basis in whole or in part. Starting from Thursday, 21 May, thermal screening technology is being trialled in Heathrow Airport Terminal 2’s immigration hall to detect elevated temperatures of arriving passengers. With uncertainties still surrounding the resumption of commercial flight services in Nigeria, Air Peace has said it would resume flight operations with only 10 aircraft. Air France Plans to Gradually Resume Passenger Flight Operations

Following the gradual relaxation of COVID-19 lockdowns across the world, Air France has announced plans to gradually resume passenger flight operations. Between now and the end of June, Air France plans to resume flights, with a gradual increase in the number of frequencies and destinations especially to/from metropolitan France, the French Overseas Departments, and Europe. The airline also plans to resume flights to several destinations in North America, South America, Asia, Middle East, Africa, and the Caribbean. This flight schedule will be equivalent to 15% of the capacities usually deployed at this time of year and will be operated by 75 out of the 224 aircraft in the Air France fleet.

COVID-19: Delta Goes Extra Miles with Plexiglass Safety Barrier

To add another layer of safety at airports for Delta customers and our staff, Delta is installing plexiglass safety barrier especially for airport check-in lobbies, departure gates and Delta Sky Club counters. The Delta Flight Products team has created a thoughtful design, worked with Airport Customer Service teams to test installation at Delta's Atlanta Hub and is now manufacturing up to 150 ​barriers every day.
